Palm meal and coconut meal, the by-products of oil manufacture in Southeast Asian countries, are cheap and fine raw materials of animal feeds. Palm meal contains 14-17% of crude protein and 7-10% of crude fat, whereas, coconut meal contains 20-22% of crude protein and 6-9% of crude fat. They can replace part of corn and soybean meal in feed industry. However, palm meal and coconut meal contain high content of crude fibers (10-18%), especially large amount of mannans (30-35%), which increases the viscosity of intestinal chyme and decrease digestion and absorption of nutrients.
